How to prepare for Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Exam 2014? This is one basic question asked by majority of students but very important also. Before that, let me give you an overview of SSC (CGL) Exam.
SSC CGL EXAM IS MADE OF THREE TIERS
SSC TIER I – Paper is of 200 marks. The preliminaries consist of four sections which carries 200 questions of 200 marks. The paper comprises of English Comprehension, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning. Time duration is two hours. For every wrong answer, there is a penalty of 0.25 marks.
SSC TIER II – The candidates who qualify Tier I exam appear for Tier II . This exam is objective type and has multiple choice questions from English and Maths section carrying 200 marks each. Again the time duration is two hours and for every wrong answer, there is a penalty of 0.25 marks . In case the candidate is applying for Statistical Investigator – Grade II, then there will be an exam on Statistics. Paper III on statistics also carries 200 marks.
SSC TIER III– The candidate who qualifies SSC Tier II exam will be called for an Interview. For some posts, there is an interview whereas for some posts, there is a computer proficiency or skill test. For example – The candidate who appears for tax assistant job has to qualify data entry speed test.

In the year 2010 :SSC CGL Tier IGeneral Awareness Section covered 58% statisticsconsisting of Economics, Geography, History and Polity, 36 % scienceconsisting of Computers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and 6 % miscellaneous questions.
In The year 2011 : SSC CGL Tier I General Awareness Section covered 58 % statistics consisting of Economics, Geography, History and Polity , 32 % science consisting of Computers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and 10 % miscellaneous questions.
In the year 2012: SSC CGL Tier I General Awareness Section covered 46 % statisticsconsisting of Computers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, 34 % scienceconsisting of Computers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and 20 % miscellaneous questions.
In the year 2013 : SSC CGL Tier IGeneral Awareness Section covered 44 % statistics consisting of Computers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology , 36 % science consisting of Computers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and 20 % miscellaneous questions.
The message is clear from the analysis that don’t waste the time in chasing current GK as the major focus should be on statistics and science under General Awareness section.
