SSC CGL Exam Preparation

SSC Combined Graduate Level Exam has been conducted yearly for the past couple of years. Before 2010, the exam didn’t happen every year and not many vacancies were there.  Nowadays this is the biggest exam and challenged by Bank PO exam only.  While preparing for SSC CGL examination, you must concentrate on preparation strategy, approach, booklist.

The preparation list for SSC CGL exam involves chapter wise strategy. SSC Tier Iconsists of four subjects – Arithmetic, Verbal Reasoning, English, General Awareness. Arithmetic  covers 50 marks, Verbal  Ability covers  50 marks , Reasoning covers  50 marks ,General  Awareness covers  50 marks with 25 %  weight age for  each subject in Tier I .

SSC Tier II consists of two subjects – Arithmetic and Verbal Ability covering 200 marks each with 50 % weightage. Total weightage of subjects in both tiers is 41.7% for Arithmetic, Verbal Ability and 8.33 % for Reasoning, General Awareness.

Negative Marking is there. For Tier I- Negative Marking is 0.25 and for Tier II – Negative Marking is 0.50 for every wrong answer.
If you see the exam pattern, it would be clear that Tier I and Tier II are both tilted more towards English and Mathematics.
Mathematics clearly stands on two pillars –Conceptual Clarity and Lots of Practice.

Conceptual clarity of Mathematical Aptitude can be attained from books - NCERT Class X, Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma, RS Aggarwal.

English: There is no better book than Wren N Martin to prepare for English Grammar and composition. Also you can buy Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis for vocabulary.

Reasoning: Refer Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning by RS Aggarwal, Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey for this section.
General Awareness: Refer IBS monthly magazine to cover this part. Apart from this, Read newspaper daily.
